10 Helpful Hints For a Good Nights Sleep

The team here at The Natural Kids Collection have put together 10 helpful hints to get you started on your search for a good night’s sleep.
We will be updating and expanding on this information over the coming weeks so be sure to join us on Facebook to find out more.

1. Use a baby sleeping bag to ensure that your baby does not kick off their blankets in the middle of the night and therefore wake up cold.

2. Do not use a polyester filled sleeping bag as they do not breathe and can cause your baby discomfort when they sweat. Instead choose a natural fibre such as bamboo.

3. Baby’s love routine, so try to make naps and bedtime at the same time each day.

4. Use indicators such as bath, reading a story, and putting on a baby sleeping bag to transition your baby from the fun of the day to the calm of bedtime.

5. Use natural fibres to dress your baby in layers to suit the temperature of your nursery.

6. Ensure that your night feeds are quiet, calm, and as dark as possible to show your baby that night time is for sleeping and feeding and not playing.

7. Be aware of habits you are teaching your baby to go to sleep as they will wake in the night looking for them.

8. Make bed a happy place. Always talk positively of bedtime and comfort your baby when they are upset to reassure them that you are still available.

9. When your baby is calm, put them into bed awake as they will soon feel secure enough to fall asleep by themselves and will continue to do so throughout the night when they wake between sleep cycles.

10. Lastly, remember that just as our needs change, so do your baby’s so be prepared for hurdles and setbacks in the quest for a good night’s sleep. Your baby's sleeping patterns are not an indication of your parenting skills. What works for someone else may not work for you. Find out what suits you and go with it.
